Duolingo Overview

The Duolingo English Test is a modern language proficiency tool designed for today’s international students and institutions. It provides an English proficiency score, video interview, and writing sample in a convenient, efficient, and secure testing environment.

Details: Duolingo consists 4 modules:

1. Literacy 2. Comprehension 3. Conversation 4. Production

It is an online exam that lasts minimum 48 minutes to an hour. There is no need to pre-book the exam; test takers can book their exam at any time and appear from any location.
It is less expensive than other English proficiency exams, with fees of 3380 Rs. ($49).
It’s an intriguing exam because, unlike IELTS, PTE, or TOEFL, it contains a variety of questions.

Each test taker’s proficiency is reported as a holistic score on a scale from 10 – 160

✅ Can understand simple English words and phrases.
✅ Can comprehend simple information and express themselves in familiar contexts.

60 - 85
✅ Can comprehend the main points of a concrete speech or writing on mundane topics such as work and school.
✅ Can describe experiences, goals, opinions, and plans, albeit with some awkwardness or hesitation.

90 - 115
✅ Can achieve the majority of communication objectives, even on unfamiliar topics.
✅ Can grasp the main points of both concrete and abstract writing.
✅Can easily interact with proficient speakers.
4
120 - 160
✅ Can comprehend a wide range of difficult written and spoken languages, as well as some specialized language use situations.
✅Understanding of implicit, figurative, pragmatic, and idiomatic language.
✅Can use language effectively and flexibly for the majority of social, academic, and professional purposes.

NOTE: A test score in the range of 90-115 would be equivalent to IELTS 6.5 band overall
